We have become addicted to many different chemicals because they can alter our state of mind, our mood and energy levels in the short term, however they cause our body systems to work overtime to detox these harmful chemicals. This adds to the workload of the body and makes us feel lethargic, tired and stressed out.
When we embark on a detox program, very often, one of the great things we will notice is that we have managed to lose some weight naturally, without taking pills and such. This is a great thing for those of us who want to detox to get our body to function at its peak of health, and get lively and healthy.
Some of the substances we have grown addicted to include caffeine, sugar, alcohol, over the counter medicines, tobacco and other drugs, whether it be prescribed or so called recreational.
To detox ourselves from these substances, it is best that we do so gradually. If we abruptly stop consuming these and go cold-turkey, we can often suffer from withdrawal symptoms, such as headaches, fatigue, depression, poor concentration, insomnia, diestive function disruption and flatulence. Hence it is important that we go slowly and wean these harmful stuff away from us.
Also we should not to consume too many empty and near-empty calories, such as refined sugar, refined flour and alcohol. Going on a sugar detox program can be beneficial for us. We are bound to be surprised by the large amount of refined sugar that goes into what we eat, as part of the modern western diet. Cut down gradually on your sugar intake over a few weeks time, and eventually stop eating it altogether. Sugar is present in many sweets and candies, chocolates, store bought fruit juices, canned drinks etc.
Sugar withdrawal symptoms can be quite severe, resulting in diarrhoea, nausea, headaches as well as being very irritable. Avoid artificial sweeteners as well, as although they have very few calories, we can get addicted to the artificial sweetener itself, and have to detox ourselves from that chemical as well.
To keep out body in a fit and healthy shape, we have to take care of detoxing ourselves, so make a plan today to start your detox.
